Starting a Team

FIRST® LEGO® League teams require two coaches and two to ten student members.  Teams can be school, scout troop, church, community center, club or home based.  With different coaches and formats, teams have different meeting times. Some meet during class, others after school, and others on weekends.

So you are interested in Starting a Team? Here is some information and tips

1. To officially have a team you must register with FIRST® LEGO® League National Open May-Sept (Ready to Register)

2. Once you have register with FIRST® LEGO® League you can purchase the LEGO® materials you need. Basics you will need: 1- LEGO® SPIKE PRIME® Robotics kit (RCX, NXT, EV3 or SPIKE PRIME®), 1-Field Challenge Set (new each year part of #1 fee)

3. Early August the yearly challenge will be released online

4. FIRST DAY OF SEPTEMBER - GEORGIA REGIONAL EVENT REGISTRATION WILL OPEN.  If you do not complete this registration your team will not be able to participate in the competitions. You must complete this registration by October 1 for a guaranteed placement. Many events will fill by the end of the second week and your placement in events depends on a number of factors so select you choices wisely as you may end up in any of the 6 choices you provide. Your Regional assignment can be found on the Team Assignment page of this website starting two weeks after the opening of registration.

5.  GEORGIA Regional Tournament events will occur the two - three weekends between Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks.  Often the first three weekends in December.

6. Teams that competed in the Regional Tournament will be informed online, through the tournament assignments page of this website that they have advanced to the Super-Regional Tournament.
      Advancement is based on the team placement in the Champion's Award rankings.

7. Teams that competed in the Super-Regional Tournament will be informed online, through the tournament assignments page of this website that they have advanced to the State Championships.
      Advancement is based on the team placement in the Champion's Award rankings.

1. National FIRST LEGO League registration fee - $325 (includes yearly Challenge set)
2. LEGO SPIKE PRIME through FIRST LEGO League         approx $500
3. GA Tournament fee                                           - $225
